In March of this year, Gamstop experienced a significant increase in registrations, with a monthly record figure that was 24% higher compared to March of the previous year.
Gamstop attributed this increase to the Cheltenham Festival horse racing event, which took place from 12-15 March. The days immediately following the festival saw the highest number of registrations.
Since its launch in April 2018, over 365,000 individuals have registered with Gamstop’s self-exclusion scheme, opting for exclusion periods of six months, one year, or five years. Currently, approximately 330,000 people remain excluded from gambling with licensed operators.
In March 2020, the Gambling Commission made it a licensing condition for all operators to integrate with Gamstop, in addition to having their own self-exclusion schemes.
“Our recent data highlights the increasingly important role Gamstop plays in assisting potentially vulnerable consumers who wish to take a break from gambling,” said Fiona Palmer, CEO of Gamstop. She added, “The record monthly registrations demonstrate the substantial demand for a scheme like Gamstop. It is crucial that we raise awareness to ensure individuals in need are aware of our services. Additionally, we must continuously listen to our users, develop, and enhance the scheme to meet their requirements.”
Earlier this year, Gamstop revealed that in 2022 alone, 84,000 consumers registered with their service, reaching another all-time high.
