Broville has been unable to participate in sanctioned tennis events since 20 June this year. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has now confirmed this suspension, pending the investigation of charges under the Tennis Anti-Corruption Programme (TACP).
The ITIA states that the suspension is based on violations of Sections F.3.b.i.1 and F.3.b.i.4 of the TACP. Section F.3.b.i.1 addresses the failure to comply with a demand, while Section F.3.b.i.4 outlines the likelihood of a player being guilty of a major offence.
The ITIA justifies the need for this provisional suspension due to the potential harm to the integrity of tennis otherwise. Broville has appealed against the suspension, but the appeal has been dismissed by an independent anti-corruption hearing officer.
Broville, 24 years old and with a career-high ATP ranking of 708, last played in the M15 Casablanca event in Morocco in June.
Broville joins the list of players facing consequences from the ITIA for violating anti-corruption rules. French player Alexis Musialek faces a potential lifelong ban for match-fixing, and Timur Khabibulin, Sanjar Fayziev, and Igor Smilansky have been provisionally suspended for match-fixing and breaching the TACP. Nastja Kolar and Alexandra Riley have already received lifetime bans for multiple match-fixing violations between 2015 and 2020.
