The collaboration includes Bally’s Corporation, BetMGM, DraftKings, Entain, FanDuel Group, and MGM Resorts International. They have agreed upon a 12-point pledge that will serve as the industry benchmark for social responsibility.
These principles are based on four core attributes:
- Operating only within legal markets that provide consumer protections
- Instilling a responsible gaming culture throughout the business
- Ensuring online gaming is fun and enjoyed as a form of entertainment
- Understanding that some players may need additional tools and support for their gaming activities
The 12 principles, derived from these attributes, have been endorsed by the participating operators. They include actions like preventing underage and excluded individuals from gambling, helping players make informed choices, supporting a nationwide responsible gaming helpline, and adhering to socially responsible advertising standards.
Other commitments by the operators in the initiative are:
- Providing players with tools for responsible gaming
- Following all self-exclusion rules and regulations
- Encouraging customers to set budgets
- Promoting the value of time and financial limits
- Delivering responsible gaming training to staff
The operators are also dedicated to a shared responsibility approach in addressing problem gaming. This involves collaboration with policy makers, academic experts, researchers, problem gaming treatment organizations, and advocacy groups. They are committed to funding problem and responsible gaming research and ensuring their responsible gaming programs are evaluated and updated as necessary.
BetMGM’s chief legal officer, Joshua Jessen, stated, “Responsible gaming is at the forefront of everything we do at BetMGM. We are proud to stand together with our colleagues to adopt these important principles, creating a consistent standard of responsible gaming measures across the board.”
Martin Lycka, Senior Vice-President for American Regulatory Affairs and Responsible Gambling at Entain, expressed his delight at the industry’s commitment to responsible gaming. He hopes that the principles will address problem gaming consistently and involve industry and state regulators in advancing these measures.
Adam Warrington, Vice-President for Responsible Gaming at FanDuel, emphasized their commitment to collaborating with other operators and the industry as a whole in promoting responsible online gaming through these 12 principles.
