The Gaming Workers Union (GWU) has expressed concern over the gaming companies’ lack of consultation regarding potential layoffs in the igaming sector. The union has warned of possible industrial action if the companies do not address this issue.
The GWU alleges that the gaming companies, Evolution and NetEnt, have not followed regulations in their handling of redundancies. Specifically, the companies have not recognized the GWU as the official employee representative and have not provided written details about the planned layoffs.
In response to the union’s claims, Evolution has initiated the integration of NetEnt following its recent acquisition. This integration will involve cost-cutting measures, including layoffs at NetEnt. However, the GWU argues that these measures have not been implemented in accordance with regulations.
The union highlights that Malta’s Collective Redundancies (Protection of Employment) Regulations require employers to notify employee representatives in writing about planned redundancies. Failure to comply with these regulations can result in fines for the employers.
Furthermore, the GWU claims that Evolution and NetEnt have also violated the Transfer of Business (Protection of Employment) Regulations, which govern merger-related layoffs. However, the specific breaches have not been specified.
Last week, NetEnt announced its delisting from the Nasdaq Stockholm exchange as a result of the merger with Evolution.
