More than 80% of operators have committed themselves to the Code of Responsible Advertising, developed by the Gambling Regulatory Authority (URHH) in collaboration with the operators.
The aim of this document, proposed by the regulator, is to ensure greater protection for minors and vulnerable people.
Currently, 36 operators, representing over 80% of the gambling market in Slovakia, have signed up to the code.
URHH director general David Lenčéš expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Our interest is to provide a safe environment for gambling as a form of entertainment, ensuring legal predictability for operators and consumers. Thus, I’m pleased that we have successfully adopted a document defining clear advertising standards, which will enhance the protection of at-risk groups and youth.”
Committing to the code, operators agree to promote responsible gambling by highlighting the risks of financial losses and addiction.
Additionally, they pledge not to feature minors or use characters that may appeal to young people, as well as refrain from employing statements from well-known personalities in culture, society, and sports.
Legal gambling operators and other stakeholders in the media industry who endorse gambling may voluntarily subscribe to the Code of Responsible Advertising.
Lenčéš concluded, “I hope that these rules will be an important starting point for further discussions on how to responsibly address the challenges posed by gambling. Our shared goal should be to promote a strong and modern regulatory framework that provides protection for at-risk groups and the youth.”
Last year, URHH introduced a white list of websites operated by licensed operators to aid players in identifying legal offerings.
