The regulator initiated investigations into the marketing activities of Unigames’ Uniclub and Betsson’s Betsafe in October 2021.
For Betsafe, the regulator raised concerns about certain statements on its website, such as “immerse yourself in a live betting vortex” and “the most valuable offers and promotions in one place.” Additionally, the regulator flagged a page that described the history of the Betsafe brand. These actions were deemed to be aimed at attracting attention, persuading individuals, and promoting participation in the company’s games.
Regarding Uniclub, the regulator observed that the operator extensively highlighted its live casino offering, along with showcasing a wide selection of “1,000+ casino games.” These messages were considered to be intended to draw attention, persuade individuals, and encourage them to participate in the company’s games, which is in violation of Lithuania’s prohibition on gambling promotions that came into effect last year.
Consequently, Unigames was fined €12,662, and Betsson received a €25,000 fine. Additionally, both operators were warned about the potential suspension of their licenses. The regulator stated that if the promotional messages were not removed from their websites by 20 June, their approval to operate in the market could be temporarily withdrawn.
Several other operators, including Top Sport and 7Bet, have also been fined for contravening the ban this month.
