The lottery offers a total of 172 million tickets for purchase, divided into 172 series of 100,000 ticket numbers. Each ticket is split into tenths, with each tenth priced at €20. This results in total sales of €3.44 billion, out of which 70% will be awarded as prizes.
The top prize, also known as ‘El Gordo’, is valued at €400,000 per tenth of a ticket, while the second and third prizes are worth €125,000 and €50,000 per tenth, respectively. Winners will be determined for each series, with an estimated total payout of €688 million for the ‘El Gordo’ prize across all series.
The President of SELAE, Jesús Huerta Almendro, emphasized the long-standing tradition and significance of the Christmas Lottery in Spanish culture. He highlighted that SELAE, as a non-profit organization, recognizes the challenges faced by society and aims to promote positive values during difficult times.
The lottery campaign, with the tagline ‘sharing as always, sharing as never before’, has commenced and will be promoted through various media channels in the upcoming weeks.
SELAE has also prioritized health and safety by implementing extensive measures for the lottery draw. These measures include mandatory mask wearing, social distancing of two meters, and reduced capacity for media professionals. The draw will be held without public attendance to ensure the utmost security.
Recent data revealed a significant decline in Spain’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) from January to October, with a 50% drop compared to the previous year. The state-owned lottery operators, SELAE and ONCE, generated €1.9 billion in revenue during this period, down by 58.6% compared to €4.59 billion in 2019.
