Speaking at the World Regulatory Briefing (WRB) ahead of ICE London 2023, which begins tomorrow (7 February) at the ExCeL, Gibson emphasized the importance of player safety in any new legal regulations introduced in Britain. However, he also stressed the need to consider the interests of the industry. Gibson stated that involving the wider industry in the regulatory process through proper consultation would result in impactful regulations that establish Britain as a global leader in responsible gambling.
A good regulator, according to Gibson, prioritizes player safety while also considering the interests of operators, employees, and sporting bodies. This involves working closely with the industry to create an environment that balances an open recreational market with the highest levels of player protection. Gibson believes that Nevada currently sets the closest example to this gold standard in regulation.
Gibson further discussed Entain’s efforts to enhance its own approach to operating and responsible gambling. These efforts include board and executive committee overhauling, introducing a new strategy and vision focused on growth and sustainability, launching the new Advanced Responsibility & Care (ARC) program, and establishing the Entain Foundation initiative.
At Entain, the company strongly advocates for firm but fair regulation that is rigorous, transparent, and evidence-based. The UK is already home to several world-class betting and gaming businesses that are showcasing expertise and technological prowess on the international stage. With gold standard regulation, Britain has the opportunity to lead globally in responsible gambling.
ICE London 2023 will take place from 7-9 February at the ExCeL in London.
