Esports Entertainment Group has announced its acquisition of UK-based Esports Gaming League (EGL), a leading operator in the esports betting industry.
EGL, founded in 2010, hosts live and online events that attract gamers from Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. With a proprietary platform boasting over 350,000 registered users, EGL offers a range of services including tournaments, live broadcast production, and game launches.
EGL has collaborated with renowned brands such as Microsoft, Red Bull, Arsenal, and Activision, solidifying its position as a trusted partner in the industry.
Esports Entertainment Group’s CEO, Grant Johnson, expressed satisfaction with the acquisition, stating that EGL generated approximately $1.3m in revenue last year and is poised for significant growth. Johnson emphasized that the merger capitalizes on EGL’s impressive platform, large user base, talented team, and partnerships with prominent advertisers. He believes that together they can drive growth both domestically and internationally.
The specific terms of the deal were not disclosed. However, this acquisition is just one of many recent strategic moves by Esports Entertainment Group, including an application to list its common shares on the NASDAQ Capital Market, the purchase of Flip Sports’ assets, and the acquisition of Argyll Entertainment and its subsidiaries in the online betting and gaming sector. Additionally, the company has partnered with Akur Capital to identify further expansion opportunities.
