In 2022, Egamingmonitor.com conducted a scan of over 10,000 game-page URLs from 2,400 online casinos. They discovered nearly 28,000 casino games from 621 unique studios, which belong to 496 supplier groups. This data is compared to the previous year to understand the implications for operators, platforms, and studios.
The supply side of the casino gaming industry experienced an 8% growth in 2022 compared to 2021. There are now 1,405 suppliers categorized as studios, studio/aggregators, aggregators, and others. Although approximately 70 new studios were launched, the scan identified games from an additional 100 new studios.
Moreover, 24 new aggregators or platform providers entered the market, including platforms that stemmed from existing operators’ business-to-business ventures. In total, games from 621 unique studios were found over the course of 12 months.
When analyzing the distribution of game tiles across all operator sites in 2022, it becomes evident that the top 10 studio groups own more than half of the game space. Evolution Gaming holds the top position, contributing to 14% of all game space on global casino sites.
The consolidation of studio content supply reached 70%, indicating that game content from larger groups dominates casino sites. In terms of game variety, there was a 33% increase in the number of games across casino sites compared to the previous year.
Egamingmonitor.com adds over 550 new games to their database each month from more than 600 studios. On average, each studio launches approximately one game per month. Some studios, such as Games Global, Spinomenal, and Pragmatic Play, are exceptionally prolific, launching more than 100 games per year.
Slots make up 87.5% of all game content on operator pages, with live games accounting for approximately 5%. While new game types like slingo and crash games are emerging, their numbers remain small compared to the total game count.
On average, operators now offer games from 50 studios on their sites, and the number of studios on an operator’s site increased by around 14% in the past year. This means operators have the opportunity to launch around one and a half new games every day. The lifespan of games is shortening, reflecting the fleeting nature of novelty in the industry.
The largest operators in terms of game content breadth, such as Videoslots.com and Altacore, Avento, and Equinox licensed sites in Curacao, offer over 4,000 games on their sites. Additionally, 16% of all operator sites feature games from more than 100 studios.
Regarding game popularity, Starburst remains the most widely distributed game globally in 2022, followed by titles from Evolution Gaming, Pragmatic Play, Games Global, and Play’n GO. Branded games accounted for a smaller percentage of all game content, while themes like Animals & Nature and Tales & Legends witnessed increased distribution.
White, black, and brown were the most prevalent colors in game design.
In the realm of dealmaking, 1Click Games emerged as the busiest aggregator, striking agreements with 27 studios in 2022. EveryMatrix maintained its position as the most connected aggregation platform, sourcing casino content from 217 studios. Beter, a live games supplier, secured the highest number of distribution deals via aggregators.
Furthermore, only 11% of games launched in 2022 shared names with existing titles, demonstrating a trend towards increased originality.
