Light & Wonder, formerly known as Scientific Games and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, has been granted a supplier licence by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). This will allow the company to enter the newly regulated Ontario igaming market on 4 April, making it the sixth jurisdiction in North America to regulate online casino gaming.
AGCO has already issued licences to several operators, such as Bet365, FanDuel, and Unibet, in preparation for the market launch next week. Suppliers like Inspired, Kambi, and Play’n Go are also licensed to operate in Ontario. Light & Wonder’s portfolio of casino games will now be available to Ontario-licensed operators, giving them access to over 2,500 games through the OpenGaming ecosystem, including popular titles like Dancing Drums Explosion, 88 Fortunes, and Marvelous Mouse Coin Combo.
Robert Hays, managing director of Light & Wonder Americas, expressed excitement about entering the Ontario market, stating that this expansion is a significant opportunity and milestone for the company. In Canada, single-event sports betting officially launched on 27 August, but is currently limited to provincial lotteries. The process to regulate both betting and gaming in Ontario began in 2019 and was finalized with the passing of legislative processes in 2021.
