Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has recently announced the appointment of Andreas Söneby to its Platform division’s Board of Directors, effective immediately. This move is part of GiG’s strategic efforts to strengthen its leadership and prepare for the upcoming spinoff of its Platform & Sportsbook division.
Andreas Söneby brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in the gaming and technology sectors. His extensive career includes key leadership roles at prominent companies such as Unibet, Kindred Group, and Kambi.
As Chief Information Officer at Kambi, Söneby was instrumental in driving the company’s technology strategy and managing a team of over 300 professionals during a period of substantial growth. Before his time at Kambi, he served as Chief Technology Officer and IT Director at Unibet Group, where he played a crucial role in establishing Kambi as an independent entity within the group.
In addition to his roles at Unibet and Kambi, Söneby has held executive positions at White Hat Gaming and Instabox. He currently serves as a Venture Partner at Industrifonden, where he continues to shape the future of IT and technology across various sectors.
Söneby replaces Tomasz Juroszek on the GiG Platform Board, joining other members including Petter Nylander (Chair), Hessi Mocca, Mikael Riese Harstad, and Nicolas Adlercreutz. The GiG Platform Board is currently operating as a temporary committee focused on the Platform & Sportsbook vertical until the planned spinoff later this year.
The appointment of Söneby is seen as a strategic move to strengthen GiG’s leadership as the company continues to expand its operations and prepare for the upcoming business restructuring. This includes the anticipated spinoff of the Platform & Sportsbook division, expected to take place on 1 October 2024.
Recently, GiG completed its acquisition of Titan, a supplier of SEO and content services, for €3.2 million ($3.5 million). This acquisition is expected to support the operational capabilities of Gentoo Media, formerly known as GiG Media. The company also reported a 39% year-on-year increase in revenue for its media division in the second quarter of 2024, driven by organic growth. However, the Platform & Sportsbook segment faced challenges, with a decline in revenues and adjusted EBITDA during the same period.
