The agreement between DraftKings and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation will result in the expansion of wagering in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York tri-state area once legislation is passed. This collaboration is a significant milestone for DraftKings as it aims to bring its top-rated sportsbook app to sports fans in Connecticut. With mobile sports betting currently available in 10 states, DraftKings is the leading operator in the US. Partnering with the tribe will further extend its reach. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, a leader in the gaming and entertainment industry, views this agreement as reinforcing their position.
Connecticut has yet to legalize sports betting, but it is expected to generate $175m in new revenue during the first five years post-launch. Foxwoods, in conjunction with the Mohegan Tribe, holds exclusive rights to operate gaming in the state, making it a key player in the future market. The tribes’ efforts to offer online gambling during the Covid-19 closure period were rejected by Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont.
In addition to sports betting, DraftKings will also become Foxwoods’ initial daily fantasy sports (DFS) partner. Starting on December 13, it plans to roll out DFS in the state, along with online promotions and contests to enhance fan engagement.
