House Bill 6451, which focuses on casino games, was approved by a vote of 122-21 on May 20. It will now proceed to the state’s Senate for further deliberation and discussion.
If approved by the Senate, the bill will advance to Governor Ned Lamont for authorization, then to the US Department of the Interior for final assessment prior to becoming a law.
HB 6451, introduced by Representative Brian Smith, aims to legalize the agreements made between Lamont and the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes in March of this year.
The agreements with the tribes seek to formalize their involvement in the casino-games industry.
The revised gaming agreements would allow the tribes to provide online and land-based sports betting. They would also be able to offer igaming and fantasy sports competitions.
Online gaming and sports betting will be available at the tribes’ land-based casinos and beyond.
Each tribe would be allowed to operate one skin for online casino games and one for online sports betting.
The following table shows the permitted operations for each tribe:
Tribe | Online Casino Games | Online Sports Betting |
---|---|---|
Tribe 1 | 1 skin | 1 skin |
Tribe 2 | 1 skin | 1 skin |
Tribe 3 | 1 skin | 1 skin |
