Affiliate giant Better Collective is set to acquire Playmaker Capital for €176m (£150m/$190m) in a deal expected to close in Q1 2024.
Conditions for the acquisition have been met, including approval from the minister of Canadian heritage and the Ontario Superior Court. Playmaker shareholders have also voted in favor of the deal. The closing date has been set for 6 February.
Better Collective aims to strengthen its position in South America and North America through this acquisition. It expects to benefit from enhanced scale and increased investment in product, technology, and marketing.
Playmaker’s media brands, including Futbolsites.net, Yardbarker, and The Nation Network, will become part of Better Collective’s portfolio.
The Playmaker acquisition represents a significant milestone for Better Collective in its digital sports media journey.
In addition to Playmaker Capital, Better Collective also acquired Playmaker HQ in July 2023 for $54m. Playmaker HQ specializes in creating original entertainment and sports content, which will help Better Collective reach a wider audience and enhance its monetization strategies beyond sports betting.
This latest acquisition expands Playmaker HQ’s reach to a global scale with the support and resources of Better Collective.
