The regulators met in Paris, France on 15 November. L’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), the gambling regulator for France, said that the meeting discussed key issues related to betting during the World Cup.

During the meeting, the regulators focused on the fight against illegal offers and the protection of players and advertising during the World Cup. To ensure compliance with advertising, betting integrity, and consumer protection regulations, the regulators agreed to work together and closely monitor gambling operators.

Prior to the World Cup, several operators and advertisers in France signed four charters committing to responsible advertising. In a joint statement, the regulators emphasized their commitment to putting consumer protection at the forefront during the tournament.

The regulators will also collaborate with World Cup host country Qatar to monitor the market and ensure adherence to industry regulations. This will involve increased cross-border cooperation, exchange of information, expertise, and best practices.

In order to promote safer gambling measures and raise awareness of the risks associated with gambling harm, the regulators will enhance their social media presence during the tournament. They will also utilize social media to educate people on how to gamble safely.

Leading up to the tournament, regulators worldwide have issued warnings regarding operator compliance. For instance, Belgium’s Gambling Commission reminded operators of specific sections of the country’s Gambling Act dedicated to promoting responsible gambling. The Dutch Gambling Authority requested operators to closely monitor their advertising presence during the World Cup.
