The charity, Way Forward, has launched a new initiative to promote social responsibility and provide support for women affected by gambling-related harm.
Called ‘Way Forward’, this program offers a safe and confidential space for women to share their experiences. It consists of six weekly online group sessions held on Zoom every Tuesday from 11 am to 12:30 pm, starting on 18 October.
Each week, the sessions will focus on a different aspect of gambling harm. Experienced facilitators, who specialize in supporting women affected by gambling, will run the sessions.
The first session will provide an introduction to the program and an overview of the upcoming groups. The second session, on 1 November, will delve into understanding gambling addictions and their financial implications. Subsequent sessions will cover self-care, dealing with guilt and shame, managing anger and resentment, and having difficult conversations and acceptance.
This initiative follows GamCare’s recent announcement of a partnership with the Young Gamers and Gamblers Education Trust and Fast Forward. Together, they have developed the Gambling Education Framework, aiming to educate young people in the UK about the harms of gambling. The framework provides evidence-based principles and can be used in various educational settings, including schools.
